Voltage drop is a critical issue that has become unmanageable with current methodologies used by most chip designers. The problem has intensified at advanced nodes as designers are trying to pack more transistor channels into smaller areas, increasing current density. Meanwhile, power supply currents flow through increasingly smaller wires with higher resistances, leading to significant voltage drops.
