Making Autonomous Driving safer using a combination of analytics and advanced simulation technics

The primary engineering challenge in developing ADAS and Autonomous Vehicles is ensuring that they will operate safely under all encountered situations. Since Autonomous Vehicles are likely to encounter many millions of different driving situations throughout the course of operation, engineering of ADAS and AVs must comprehensively address the design and validation of their software and hardware components over millions of driving scenarios. This is a massive task involving thousands of engineers working collaboratively at OEMs as well as Tier 1 and 2 suppliers. Ansys Autonomy is a comprehensive tool chain solution that provides applications and an infrastructure for expediting the design and validation of an automated driving systems.

In this talk, you will learn how to:

  • Demonstrate high level of safety while keeping field operation test under control by using advanced simulation technics, test space analytics and physics-based sensor simulation.
  • Validate AD Level 3 using Reliability Analysis Methods to save a factor of 1000 simulations per scenario. How we did this for Mercedes drive pilot.
  • Generate synthetic sensor data using hi-fidelity physics-based sensor simulation for sensor installation, ML/AI as well as testing with driving scenarios on xIL platforms.
