Join Ansys at SIGGRAPH 2024, a conference and exhibition on computer graphics and interactive techniques, running from July 28 to Aug. 1 in Denver. You also can join virtually to experience Ansys’ collaborative work with Supermicro and NVIDIA in providing turnkey simulation solutions.

Collaboration Is Key

Don’t miss “Narrowing the Gap Between Simulation and Reality With OpenUSD,” presented by Rich Goldman, strategic partnerships director at Ansys, at 12:30 p.m. MDT on July 30. He will highlight Ansys’ use of Universal Scene Description (OpenUSD) to enable simulation visualization — from 3D-ICs to 6G mapping of the Moon — via Ansys simulation solvers running directly in NVIDIA Omniverse on USD data. NVIDIA Omniverse is a platform of application programming interfaces (APIs), software development kits, and services that enables developers to easily integrate OpenUSD and NVIDIA RTX rendering technologies into existing software tools and simulation workflows for building AI systems.

USD provides a robust framework to interchange and augment 3D scenes composed of several elemental assets. The Alliance for OpenUSD (AOUSD) is a nonprofit organization that includes members, such as Adobe, Ansys, Apple, NVIDIA, and Pixar, dedicated to building open standards that foster the interoperability of 3D content. NVIDIA Omniverse is built on the foundation of USD and bolstered by a large supporting ecosystem.

Ansys AI solutions provide the OpenUSD ecosystem with the ability to solve larger, more complex simulation models faster with the power of industry-leading simulation hardware and software. Speed isn’t the only focus for Ansys. Creating easier data manipulation and connectivity for third parties is also a top priority.

Connect Toolchains by Speaking the Same Language

Developers using computer-aided engineering (CAE) data that comes from multiple sources — that is, computer-aided design and product data management workflows — can benefit from the homogeneous features of USD when connecting all these tools. For example, Ansys AVxcelerate Autonomy autonomous vehicle development and safety validation toolchain software uses USD to get detailed, accurate data from the NVIDIA Omniverse platform. While that data enables the development of OpenUSD applications to run simulations, it also enriches the USD data model with schemas containing optical, thermal, and dielectric material definition.

Ansys Perceive EM radio frequency system simulation software also uses USD to enable access to large-scale, very detailed city environments that can be used to run a 6G electromagnetics solver. Perceive EM software on Omniverse runs in real time on NVIDIA RTX GPUs and can benefit from multi-GPU architecture to scale both the electromagnetic solver and the visualization. At the NVIDIA GTC global AI conference in San Jose, California, in March, Ansys demonstrated real-time 5G coverage by Perceive EM software at an intersection two blocks away, using a full-city scene with a resolution of 5 cm provided in USD by AOUSD member Cesium.

Ansys CFD With NVIDIA Omniverse Cloud APIs

Ansys recently announced the adoption of NVIDIA Omniverse APIs to support Ansys computational fluid dynamics (CFD) visualizations.

The result of Ansys leveraging Omniverse Sensor RTX APIs and the Omniverse Kit App Streaming API is threefold:

  1. Providing web visualization capabilities to CFD software either locally or remotely (cloud or high-performance computing)
  2. Extending the current Ansys CFD CPU-based ray tracer with NVIDIA Omniverse RTX Renderer
  3. Improving visualization capabilities, supporting larger amounts of data, and enhancing quality for both desktop and web platforms. The ability to combine such advanced computing enables innovation in existing software tools and simulation workflows for building AI systems.

Visit Ansys at SIGGRAPH 2024, and catch Rich Goldman presenting on Ansys’ work with simulation and USD at the OpenUSD Day session, alongside prominent presenters from NVIDIA, Disney Research Studios, and Meta. With hundreds of options, including talks, labs, VR theater, and panels, there is much to experience in person or virtually at SIGGRAPH 2024. The exhibition runs from July 30 to Aug. 1, and guests can enjoy virtual access to the event from July 28 to Sept. 1.
