Basics of Materials Selection using the Ansys Granta EduPack Software
The Ashby Selection Methodology, or the idea of breaking down the design process into a function, objective and constraints and the screening stages to select materials for engineering and design applications, is well known. In this lecture, details of this methodology and how it can be implemented using Ansys Granta EduPack™, a teaching software for materials education, is discussed. The processing of creating performance indices and using them to rank materials on their ability to perform a function is thoroughly covered. This lecture can be used alongside “Addressing Objectives in Conflict using Ansys Granta EduPack” (linked below) for a materials selection course. Exercises and case studies utilizing the content covered in this lecture are also available on the Ansys Education Resources site.
