Ansys is committed to providing easy access to free software to students across many of our core technologies. Earlier this year we surpassed 1.5 million product downloads, including Ansys Discovery Live Student, Ansys AIM Student, Ansys Student and Ansys SCADE Student. We are now thrilled to announce an addition to this lineup with the availability of Ansys LS-DYNA Student. This new product helps students learn core design and engineering skills around explicit simulation. It is available for free and can be downloaded at ansys.com/student as an add-on to our Ansys Student product.
LS-DYNA has been the gold standard in the automotive industry for
crashworthiness and occupant safety simulation for decades.
Ansys LS-DYNA is a general-purpose finite element code for simulating the response of materials to short periods of severe loading. It is the most commonly used explicit program for solving nonlinear, transient and dynamic problems using explicit time integration. Our student version is an extracted version of our commercial LS-DYNA product with some limitations suitable for solving academic problems. It includes LS-DYNA solver and Ansys LS-PrePost.
LS-DYNA is used in applications such as automotive crashes, bird strikes in aerospace and other high-impact applications involving large deformations. These include explosions, drop analysis and injury mechanism investigation among many others.
An explicit bumper impact analysis
LS-DYNA can help students progress capstone projects or solve examples related to curriculum or homework involving structures. The software can tackle simulations involving material failure and how it progresses through a part or system. Students can solve models with large numbers of parts or surfaces interacting with each other. The interactions and load passing between complex behaviors can be modeled accurately.
LS-Dyna Student can be used in solving problems in many application areas such as automotive, aerospace, construction and civil engineering, military, manufacturing, bioengineering and so on. Professors often teach explicit nonlinear and rigid body problems in class and provide assignments to students. Students can use LS-DYNA Student to solve those assignments at home on their laptops.
LS-DYNA Student comes with an embedded user manual and tutorials with an input file that can be used for self-learning. Ansys will continue to provide technical support to students via the Ansys Learning Forum. If you have any questions related to this product, please post it under the “Student Products” category.
