Nonlinear Adaptivity Technology in Ansys Mechanical
Computational models of elastomeric seals, packers and metal manufacturing processes are highly nonlinear with evolving contacts, large strains and severe geometric distortion. The Lagrangian finite element mesh typically used is susceptible to errors due to severe mesh distortion. The Nonlinear Adapativity (NLAD) capability in the Ansys Mechanical solver is a powerful technique to overcome the distortion issues and successfully solve such models. The solver tracks the mesh distortion during solution, automatically regenerates a new, superior quality mesh when needed, maps the solution variables and continues to solve until completion.
