Exploring the sustainability of wind turbines with Ansys Granta EduPack

This case study uses the 5-step method from Ashby et al., 2015 to explore the growing demand for materials necessary to develop wind energy at the pace needed to meet international commitments.  It focuses on off-shore wind, and the scarcity of the elements used for the permanent magnets of turbines. The 5-step method allows students to explore the topic in a systematic way. Ansys Granta EduPack is used to support where applicable. More details on this methodology can be found in the resource "Active-Learning Tool Kit for Sustainable Development using Ansys Granta EduPack" on the Ansys Education Resources site.
