Addressing Objectives in Conflict with the Ansys Granta EduPack Software
When selecting materials for a given design, there is rarely one clear answer. Strategies on how to deal with conflicting objectives during materials selection are shown in this lecture. The methods discussed include ranking materials using performance indices, drawing trade off curves, and creating penalty functions to systematically select materials for a specific application based on two competing objectives and the Pareto front. Details on how to explore this with Ansys Granta EduPack™, a teaching software for materials education, are also included. This lecture can be used alongside “Basics of Materials Selection using Ansys Granta EduPack” (linked below) for a materials selection course. Additional resources utilizing the content covered in this lecture are also available on the Ansys Education Resources site.
