User Defined Material Models in Ansys LS-DYNA

Course Overview

This course is intended for users that want to get started in user defined material modelling in Ansys LS-DYNA. It begins with explaining different types of usermat packages that are available and shows how to use them with a demonstration example.

Furthermore, some theory behind the elastic and plastic material models is discussed with examples. Lastly, the course looks at the Fortran language that is used to create new usermat subroutines in Ansys LS-DYNA.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of solid mechanics along with completion of the following course is recommended:

  • Introduction to Ansys LS-DYNA.

Teaching Method

Lectures and computer practical sessions to validate acquired knowledge.

Learning Outcome

Following completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Install the LS-DYNA usermat package, compile the code, and run a simulation with a user material.
  • Implement basic elastoplatic material models based upon stress and strain measures.
  • Call a user subroutine with required inputs and outputs created with basic knowledge of Fortran.
  • Explore default user material implementations in LS-DYNA, implement basic elastic and plastic material models, and use advanced features such as anisotropy, load curves, and history variables.
