Getting Started with Ansys CFX Software: Basics (Self-paced Learning Available)

Course Overview

Ansys CFX® computational fluid dynamics software is an industry-leading, general-purpose computational fluid dynamics (CFD) tool used to model fluid flow, heat and mass transfer, chemical reactions, and more.

In this course, you will learn how to use the Ansys CFX software to perform basic CFD simulations. You will start by learning the general CFD simulation workflow and the Ansys CFX User Interface. Next, you will learn in detail about the various aspects of Ansys CFX software that help you simulate fluid flow problems, such as physics setup, solver setup, post-processing solution results, best practices for accurate CFD simulations and much more!

Prerequisites

  • Introduction to Ansys Workbench
  • Introduction to Ansys SpaceClaim for CFD
  • Introduction to Ansys Meshing (CFD)

Teaching Method

Lectures and computer practical sessions to validate acquired knowledge. A major emphasis is placed on teaching by software demonstration and on the development of a solution to a design challenge from start to finish.

Learning Outcome

Following completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Explain how CFD works.
  • List the eight necessary steps for any CFD simulation.
  • Describe the end-to-end workflow in Ansys CFX software.
  • Set up and run basic CFD problems with Ansys CFX software in Ansys Workbench platform or in standalone mode.
  • Handle errors in CFX-Pre.
  • Set up physics in CFX-Pre.
  • Describe well-posed boundary conditions.
  • List the three types of the solution initialization.
  • Discuss the numerical accuracy of the High-Resolution Advection Scheme.
  • Explain the three conditions that ensure convergence.
  • List and discuss the three types of Timescale Control.
  • Define suitable monitor-point graphs.
  • Post-process and interpret the simulation results.
  • Define a parallel run.
  • List the five types of simulation error.
  • Discuss best practices for accurate flow simulations.
