Sub D Modeling in        Ansys Discovery

Course Overview

Ansys Discovery offers a seamless combination of modeling capabilities and simulation solvers that enables engineers and designers to quickly iterate designs before manufacture. Beyond its traditional applications, Discovery can also be used for conceptual modeling, form exploration, and product design. Users have powerful freeform control and editing features for modeling surfaces thanks to Discovery's revolutionary subdivision modeling (Sub D) toolset.

This course introduces the user to Sub D modeling through the lens of product design examples.

Teaching Method

Lectures and computer practical sessions to validate acquired knowledge.

Learning Outcome

Following completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Understand Sub D as a new geometry type in Ansys Discovery and its seamless integration with meshes and standard topology.
  • Use Sub D geometry editing tools (Subdivide, Bridge, Split, Crease, Snap) for creating and refining designs.
  • Explore the control cage for enhanced precision and manipulation of Sub D bodies.
  • Apply Sub D tools to model organic and aesthetic shapes, like a perfume bottle, balancing form and function.
  • Stylize complex models, such as an electric guitar, using Sub D direct modification tools for unique design features.
