Improving Fuel Cell Designs for FCEVs Using Simulation

With longer driving range, faster refueling, higher energy density and no emissions, fuel cell technology promises to solve many e-mobility-related challenges. Currently, fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) are on the road, but these vehicles have yet to be adopted by many countries, mainly due to the unproven technology, high cost, etc. Some countries have already defined the policies and roadmap to deploy more than 1 million FCEVs by 2030. Now is the time to accelerate the development of the fuel cell technology, optimizing it for electric vehicles.

Polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFC) operate at a lower temperature than other types of fuel cells and are preferred for the transport applications. It makes use of compressed hydrogen gas as fuel and oxygen as oxidizer. The conversion of fuel to energy happens through the electrochemical reaction in which water and heat are the only byproduct.

Register Now for this 30 minutes Hands-On Demo On Fuel Cells Modeling and Simulation. Our expert will showcase how the Flow, Thermal and Electro-chemistry characteristics of fuel cells are modeled using Ansys Fluent to help understand the effects of geometric and operating parameters on device performance and thermal management.
