GRANTA EduPack: Teach Online with a Chainsaw

Remote teaching, involving online lectures and student activities, has become a necessity at most universities. This webinar case study shares insights and tips on how to engage students remotely using the new GRANTA EduPack with an example of a simple product – a chainsaw.

For many products, mechanical performance is important and must be considered during the design process. In this case study, we examine materials for a lightweight blade of a chainsaw. This includes deriving performance indices for a stiffness-limited design. We also take durability and cost considerations into account and reflect on the materials of a real chainsaw blade in a reality check, all for remote teaching. There is a set of student exercises to accompany this case as assignments or as discussion points for a flipped-classroom approach.

  • Learn how to apply a systematic selection methodology using material indices to find the best material for a chainsaw blade directly or as input for further FEM simulation and design.
  • Discover how GRANTA EduPack supports visual and engaging teaching that has been demonstrated to be effective in flexible remote learning.
  • Experience a practical example of how the Ansys Granta educational resources can be customized for your online teaching.
