Built Environment and Sustainability with the Ansys Granta EduPack Software
The Built Environment, or surroundings created by humans, for humans has a significant impact on the daily life of everyone on this planet. Sadly, it is also contributing some of our most urgent challenges. With a world population of many billions, the impact from construction and maintenance is monumental. Resource extraction and material production as well as heating and other energy use, including transport systems, all have global-scale consequences. This impact is well highlighted in the UN Sustainability Goals, which are a common thread when teaching the next generation of engineers. In this case study, we explore how alternative materials can be selected for Built Environment applications using Ansys Granta EduPack™, a teaching software for materials education. Specifically, we will utilize the expanded data offerings in the Granta EduPack Built Environment database to explore building cladding, structural sections, and the environmental impact of a home in different countries.
