The Structural-Fluid Dynamics Academic products offer technology to address structural mechanics, explicit dynamics, fluid dynamics and thermal applications. The product variants are grouped into four sub-families: Associate, Research, Teaching and Toolbox. Each academic product is a high-value bundle of ANSYS technology that includes ANSYS Workbench, relevant CAD import tools, solid modeling, advanced meshing, solver and post-processing features.

The Academic Toolbox products include:

  • Academic meshing tools - contains ANSYS ICEM CFD advanced meshing tools plus ANSYS DesignModeler and MCAD connection products; stand-alone toolbox product is intended for use with third-party CFD solvers
  • Academic fuel cell tools - contains ANSYS Fluent solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) and polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) models; specialized solver models intended for use with any ANSYS academic product that contains ANSYS Fluent (fluid dynamics) capability

The academic high-performance computing (HPC) products are parallel processing tools that may be used only with the Research- and Associate-level products. These HPC products are sold per processor and are physics neutral, in that they will function with ANSYS Multiphysics, ANSYS Mechanical, ANSYS CFX, ANSYS Fluent and ANSYS Autodyn solvers.

  • ANSYS DesignSpace capability - entry level structural and thermal physics capability product that uses the ANSYS Workbench environment; a subset of ANSYS Mechanical capabilities

High-Performance Computing (HPC)

  • Built-in parallel processing support for up to 4 cores - includes shared memory and distributed ANSYS parallel computing for four cores; applicable to structural, thermal, electromagnetic, fluid dynamics (ANSYS CFX and ANSYS Fluent) and explicit dynamics solvers. See here for more details.
  • HPC >4 cores available (at extra cost) - HPC capability can be extended beyond four cores by buying additional ANSYS Academic HPC licenses. See here for more details.
  • General-purpose GPU for ANSYS Mechanical solver - enables support for GPUs for use with the ANSYS Mechanical and ANSYS Fluent solvers.
  • VT for solvers - variational technology applied to static or transient nonlinear solutions for structural (no contact or plasticity) and thermal analyses; performs a single-point solution and extrapolates over a wide range, negating the need to perform multiple solutions; also includes frequency sweep VT, a fast-frequency domain (harmonic) sweep using variational technology, applicable to structural and high-frequency electromagnetics physics
